Student financial aid goes a long way in helping students pursue an education and become our future medical professionals. Many MD students struggle with the cost of schooling, unable to afford decent housing or extracurricular activities. Bursaries and scholarships assistant students in their goals while building on a legacy of support from generation to generation.
Andrew Wilson is a recent MD graduate who is now pursuing a residency in respirology. Support from student awards like the Rix Bursary enabled him to complete his medical degree and reach his academic goals.
“As medical school becomes increasingly costly and competitive, I appreciate financial assistance now more than ever.To me, bursaries and scholarships symbolize support from the community, which has been invaluable during times when I struggled through the demands of medical school. Knowing that people in our community are willing to help has contributed more than financial support. I will forever be grateful to the donors who made my education achievable, alleviating extraneous factors to allow me to focus on my path in medicine. I hope to one day honour their contributions by giving back to society through work and research in clinical respirology and by educating future generations of physicians.”
